Description

Learn how many language certifications exist in The State of Florida and understand the difference between an interpreter and a translator. This course will go over the 3 modes of interpretation and when each should be employed. The presenter will discuss the interpreter’s code of ethics and when is it recommended to hire the services of an interpreter. Learn about what makes a translation a “certified translation”.

COURSE OBJECTIVES
At the end of this course you will understand the interpreter’s role in a legal proceeding and why it is recommended you always use a certified or professional interpreter for your proceeding. Learn about different cultures and how to use that knowledge to be a better advocate for your clients. Understand the difference between dialects and accents. Avoid litigation, hire an interpreter. Is it ethical for an attorney to interpret/translate on behalf of their client? What is diligent search?

SPEAKER BIO

As President and Director of Language Pickup by Horizon Legal Solutions, Karina De La Cruz has vast knowledge in the legal field. Her expertise in the legal arena allows her to understand the needs of both legal and medical professionals.

Karina obtained an Associates of Arts in Paralegal Studies from Cooper Career College. She then went on to obtain her Bachelor’s in Business Administration with a major in International Business from Northwood University in West Palm Beach, FL. She attended Nova Southeastern University for her post graduate studies (MBA) in Business Administration.

As a legal assistant and paralegal for nearly 10 years, Mrs. De La Cruz was employed by some of the most prominent law firms in South Florida. She saw the need for language services and in 2006 founded Horizon Legal Solutions, Inc.
